Privacy notice

What Wavode collects, why, and what your rights are.

Short version: we collect your email if you subscribe to the newsletter, we use Google Analytics to see anonymous traffic patterns, and — once Google AdSense is enabled on the site — we will show ads that may set advertising cookies. That's it. The free crochet tools run entirely in your browser — nothing you type in them ever reaches us. For readers in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland, a consent banner will be shown to accept or reject personalized advertising as soon as ads go live.

1. Who we are

«Wavode», «we», and «us» refer to the operator of wavode.com. For any privacy question, contact us at support@wavode.com.

2. What we collect and why

2.1 Newsletter subscription

If you enter your email in one of the newsletter forms and submit it, we store that address in order to send you new pattern releases and the occasional free PDF. We do not sell, rent, or share your address with third parties. You can unsubscribe from any newsletter email in one click.

2.2 Anonymous analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages get read, which tools get used, and where visitors come from. Google Analytics stores cookies in your browser and receives a de-identified version of your IP address. We do not receive any personal identifiers from Google Analytics — only aggregate counts. Google's own privacy practices are documented at policies.google.com/privacy.

You can opt out of Google Analytics site-wide by installing Google's opt-out browser add-on.

2.3 The free crochet tools

The yarn calculator, hook converter, and gauge helper on /tools run entirely client-side in your browser. Numbers you type in them are never sent to us and never leave your device.

2.4 Advertising (Google AdSense)

Wavode is preparing to display ads through Google AdSense. Once ads are enabled, Google and its advertising partners will serve ads on this site and may use cookies, web beacons, device identifiers, IP address, and other signals to serve those ads, measure their performance, and — where you have consented — personalize the ads you see based on your prior visits to Wavode and other sites on the internet. This section describes how that will work; no advertising cookies are set on your browser before ads are enabled.

You can review how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can control the ads you see, and opt out of personalized advertising by Google, in your Google account at adssettings.google.com. You can also opt out of personalized advertising from many other vendors at aboutads.info (US) and youronlinechoices.eu (EU/UK).

2.5 Consent for readers in the EEA, UK and Switzerland

Once ads are enabled, visitors from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland will be shown a consent banner on their first visit through a Google-certified Consent Management Platform. That banner will let you accept or reject personalized advertising, analytics, and other non-essential uses of cookies. If you reject personalization, Google may still show non-personalized ads based only on the content of the page and general context. Once available, you will be able to change your choice at any time via a «Manage cookie preferences» link in the footer.

2.6 Server logs

Our hosting provider (Vercel) automatically logs standard request data — IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamp — for security and abuse-prevention purposes. Logs are rotated on Vercel's schedule and are not accessed by us for any purpose other than debugging or investigating suspected abuse.

3. Cookies

Wavode and its service providers use cookies for the following purposes:

Analytics cookies set by Google Analytics 4 (see 2.2).
Advertising cookies set by Google AdSense and its ad-serving partners to serve, measure and — with your consent — personalize the ads shown on this site (see 2.4).
Strictly necessary cookies that our host may set to serve the site (e.g. edge-caching keys). These are not used for tracking.

Third-party cookies (Google Analytics, and, once ads are enabled, Google AdSense and its partners) are set from those services' own domains and are controlled by them. Once the consent banner described in 2.5 is live, you will be able to withdraw consent for analytics and personalized advertising at any time via the «Manage cookie preferences» link in the footer.

Google (Analytics) — anonymous traffic analytics. See 2.2.
Google (AdSense) and its advertising partners — once ads are enabled, will serve, measure and, with your consent, personalize the ads shown on this site. See 2.4.
Vercel — the hosting platform serving this site.
Etsy — external site linked from our Shop page. Etsy has its own privacy policy at etsy.com/legal/privacy.
Pinterest, Instagram — external social platforms we link to. Their privacy notices govern anything that happens on their sites.

5. Data retention

Newsletter email addresses are kept for as long as you remain subscribed, and deleted on unsubscribe or on explicit request. Google Analytics data is retained per Google's default 14-month setting. Server logs are retained per Vercel's standard retention window (typically 30 days).

6. Your rights

Under GDPR (European visitors) and CCPA (California visitors), you have the right to:

Access — request a copy of any personal data we hold about you.
Correct — ask us to fix inaccurate data.
Delete — ask us to remove your data (in practice: unsubscribe removes your email; there is nothing else).
Portability — request your data in a machine-readable format.
Object / withdraw consent — opt out of specific processing, including analytics (see 2.2) and, once ads are enabled, personalized advertising (see 2.4). Consent will be manageable at any time via the «Manage cookie preferences» link in the footer once that banner is live; in the meantime, email us at support@wavode.com.

To exercise any of these, email support@wavode.com from the address concerned. We respond within 30 days.

7. Children

Wavode is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13. Ads served on Wavode are configured to avoid personalized advertising to users identified as children. If you believe a child has submitted data, contact us at support@wavode.com and we will delete it promptly.

8. Changes to this notice

When we change how we handle personal data, we update this page and change the «Last updated» date at the top. Material changes will also be flagged in a newsletter email to current subscribers.
